Raising awareness about mosquitos and the diseases they transmit is extremely important. Everyone can play an important role in preventing mosquito bites and eliminating mosquito breeding grounds if they put in effort to learn about how to protect themselves from mosquitoes and the diseases they can carry. With this being said, the National Mosquito Control Awareness Week was created to educate the public about the public health threat mosquitoes pose to our communities. It falls on the 4th week of June every year, and in honor of it the American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA) puts efforts towards educating the general public about the significance of mosquitoes in our daily lives and the important service provided by mosquito control workers throughout the world. In addition, World Mosquito Day is celebrated annually on August 20th, and it is an official commemoration of British doctor Sir Ronald Ross's discovery in 1897 that female mosquitoes transmit malaria between humans. Ross intended to create this occasion to raise the importance of mosquito control for future generations. I encourage you all to inform others about these occasions and even post on your social media about them to raise mosquito awareness and to spread this important information!
